Local Resources

Local Emergencies & Urgent Cares

A new list of urgent cares and the new emergency hospitals was created and we felt it was important to share. We also want to share some other resources.

If you are unsure if your pet is having a medical emergency, you can set up a video chat with a veterinarian. If they determine it is a medical emergency, they will call the closest receiving hospital to you and set everything up on your behalf. This service is called Vet Triage. You pay $50 up front and a veterinarian will call you quickly to video chat.

If you think your pet might have ingested a poison or toxin, you must call the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline first, before calling an emergency vet. They are specifically educated about different poisons and antidotes vs emergency vets who are educated more broadly. The hotline will give you a case number to provide to your veterinarian.

ASPCA Poison Control Hotline: 888-426-4435

Local Financial Resources

If payment is a concern, most hospitals accept Scratch Pay and Care Credit. They are similar to credit cards where you can use them upfront and pay back later.

Lastly, Rochester Hope for Pets is a local non-profit that helps pets by paying a portion of your pet’s bill. For more information, call 585-532-7406.
